Lets go! | MSM96-METAL-ML

Very early into our expedition we have now already made new experiences. Each the distinguished technicians and researchers in addition to the newcomers on board lived three calm days with wonderful service within the quarantine resort. That was new. We shared a day “East-Frisian tea ceremony”, night drinks and temporary preparation talks just about whereas ready eagerly to lastly meet all the crew in individual. That was new. On a regular basis brilliantly supported by the “house crew” that managed the cargo logistics with out us having the ability to assist. That was new.

All went properly and on Friday, the 9th of October we might lastly make the shot journey to port and what a sight was anticipating us: the three giant German analysis vessels collectively in port. RV Meteor on the North pier, in full view, RV Sonne and RV Maria S. Merian on the South pier behind one another. That was new and completely magnificent to see. What adopted was the standard trade of personnel with many Hellos and Goodbyes, the check-in to the cabins, the exploration of the vessel which was new to 11 of us scientists. Many acquainted faces from earlier journeys on this or different vessels and a completely heat welcome by all on board.

As we travelled mild – simply two half-empty vans with gear – the deck is nearly empty and the area within the hangar makes it straightforward to work. That was new. It was a fast activity to distribute all materials to the labs and workspaces and since then all the crew has been busy organising centrifuges, clear benches, laptop clusters, telemetries and familiarizing themselves with the ship’s analysis gear. Shortly after leaving we already took the primary water pattern in preparation of later experiments and all went properly.

Within the meantime, the ship has made its method alongside the German, Belgian, Dutch, English and French coast and we at the moment are leaving the English Channel due South of the tip of Cornwall. One and a half extra days of transit till we lastly go away nationwide waters and might begin with the science program in our “PAP” working space. Extra on that within the subsequent report – till then we can’t wait to lastly obtain the primary knowledge!
